A Simple Solution to an Expensive Problem

I first called GE when I noticed that my 3 year old fridge wasn't cooling properly and there was a lot of frost on the back of the freezer. I signed up for service, but soon realized I would be charged about $100 to diagnose the problem, excluding parts and labor. I also found that the parts cost three times as much on GE's website. Heating element good, thermistor bad, thermostat good

This was a good replacement for the defrost heater. My old one might actually be fine because when I replaced it I found that the wire paddle joints were corroded by surface rust from the wet environment so I added high temp dielectric grease to protect them in the future. But it works fine. The thermistor was OUT OF CALIBRATION. You really need to make sure that at 32F (ice water) the resistance is 16.3K. What I got in this product reads 35K. Failed to purchase (2) BC mining packs during the year

They say the cheap person spends the most and in my case it is. I am writing this review a few days to a year since I first purchased this aftermarket defrost heater. It has since failed and like flies to honey I am buying (2) packs because I know it will fail and despite what common sense tells me to buy a more expensive OEM part that will last a long time, the calls Siren song cheap heating defrosts. At first it seemed to work fine, but after a month we noticed it was getting too hot!

This defrost heater worked well at first, but after about a month we found that it was heating up our freezer noticeably! We found that our ice had partially melted in the icemaker and returned to a solid mass and was not being dispensed through the door inlet.
