Super hard to break up into smaller pieces, but good stuff

I thought I'd buy the 10-lb brick and break pieces off as wanted. This stuff is super-hard to break up, I have found. I used a hammer and whacked it while still in the plastic bag. Hammered away and VERY hard to break off pieces; the hammer went through the plastic bag leaving a hammer-shaped hole, but coir will not break! I did finally break off one corner, enough to make some seed-starting mix along with vermiculite, but it is extremely hard to break this brick up into smaller pieces…

Pros
  • This is a great product at ac fabulous price.
Cons
  • May not provide enough support for larger plants

This works for gardens and pots

I purchased this to mix into the dirt I have in a raised bed. I know it's more expensive than bags of dirt, but the benefits of drainage you cannot get with regular dirt you can purchase. Its easy to add the water, and you can see it expand. Depending on how much drainage you want, you may need more than one of these bricks for a raised bed. The product does not have a bad smell, or a chemical smell.

Pros
  • Great for lining bottom of hanging baskets or window boxes.....helps with keeping plants not drying out.
Cons
  • Requires the addition of other nutrients for optimal plant growth

helpful for soil enrichment

I have ordered this product several times, and was generally pleased. However, when I received the delivery today, I noticed variations in the size of the bricks. As these are sold by weight, not volume, I weighed each of the 4 bricks. 1 weighed, 9#, 1 weighed 8#, and 2 weighed 7# each. Weights included the heavy poly wrapping, so even less then actual weight. as these are supposed to be 10# each, feeling a bit cheated.

Pros
  • Worked great and easy to use.
Cons
  • Can be messy when handling

Great stuff - my new review

What I like about this:Compact brick that expands a ton (feels like the never-ending coco brick when you’re expanding it).Easy to moisten what you need while the rest stays dry since it is very densely compacted.Expands to loose material without big chunks.Multi-use material that I ended up using to amend clay soil, as a part of a raised bed mix, and as a mulch around two medium-sized potted trees and around squash and zuchinni plants. The portions I used for mulch have stayed put even though it

Pros
  • The coir brick almost filled an 18 gallon tote to the brim.
Cons
  • May not hold moisture as well as other substrates

GREAT FOR MYCOLOGY (MUSHROOM GROWING)

THIS IS GREAT FOR MYCOLOGY!This Coco Coir is a top notch product for making gourmet mushroom substrates. It's one HUGE 10lb block which equals about 6 1/2 standard Coco Coir blocks for only $17. There are NO pesticides or anti-fungals in the product. This Coco Coir is about as "Organic" as they come. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A HAND SAW WITH LARGE SHARP TEETH TO CUT THE BLOCK INTO SMALLER PIECES.MANURE-FREE SUBSTRATE RECIPE:-Boil 5 quarts of water-Remove from heat-Add 650-800 grams of Coco Coir to…

Pros
  • Transplanting a exotic plant into a larger container,it being mixed with perlite is good for the roots.
Cons
  • Long-term storage can lead to mold growth

Great for both potted and garden plants

Love it. I've replaced peat moss with this in potted and garden plants, for succulents, annuals, and perennials. We have a lot of clay, and this works great to break it up. It's also useful immediately around trees, in the space between where you should and should not put mulch. that way there's no gap, and don't have to fill with dirt that will wash down anyway. Whether wet or dry this stays put.I was worried it would "fly away" when dried, but it didn't. Some reviewers noted it doesn't expand

Pros
  • works well on subtropical
Cons
  • Can attract pests such as mites or fungus gnats

Buyer beware in my review

The only reason it even gets 3 stars is because this may be a fine product to use as a soil amendment or for outdoor use, but I had a terrible experience using it in a 70/30 coco/perlite mix. I think mine covered every common complaint: dead seedlings, TDS of 600ppm, lots of dust/fines (holds too much water), excessive sand, and bad sewage smell.Part of this was my fault, I should not have assumed it was properly rinsed as advertised. I spent several hours soaking, rinsing, testing EC, and…

Pros
  • very convenient
Cons
  • May require additional fertilization

Good for Orchid potting.

Reasonable price and delivery time. I use this product to repot my orchids. Airy, holds water well, long lasting. Bugs don't seem to grow in it. Good value.

Pros
  • I add this to my worm bed. Good stuff. Easy to break apart for the redworm bed.
Cons
  • May require special equipment for handling

Unique Aroma best in my review

I have bought this product in the past, and really enjoyed it. It absorbed the water faster than last time (be Not recommended for use in indoor gardening.

Pros
  • The product has a natural ability to retain moisture, providing plants with hydration when they need it
Cons
  • Not recommended for use in indoor gardening

Here's how much this product will make.

For the record, I purchased this ten pound block of coco coir and an eight quart box of perlite.I used a full size wheelbarrow, added 1 1/2 gallons of water to the bottom, and placed the 10 pound block in the water. After 30 minutes, the water was totally soaked into the block of coco coir.I added another 1 1/2 gallons of water and started to peel the loose coco coir from around all edges of the block. After another 30 minutes, I added another 1 1/2 gallons of water and used a small hand rake to

Pros
  • Premium Coco Coir Growing Medium
Cons
  • May require frequent watering

Found plastic. good for me

The coir pith expanded well and looks and feels amazing, but as I poured warm water on it and allowed it to expand, I found strands of white plastic in it. Not sure that falls in the organic category. A bit disappointed.

Pros
  • plantonix
Cons
  • Not recommended for use with sensitive plants

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Plants like it on my review.

The plants like it but it recommend either mixing it with a dense soil or applying top soil when using it because it breathes so well it can dry out pretty fast

Pros
  • Great for a HUGE Variety of Uses!
Cons
  • Can require additional maintenance compared to other substrates

It is one 10 lbs brick.

Not sure why I thought this was going to be 10 1 pound bricks but it is a single 10 pound brick just keep that in mind. Otherwise it is amazing item.

Pros
  • This product is easy to use and works well with many different types of gardening applications
Cons
  • Not recommended for use in landscaping projects

Great for reptile bedding

I use this for bedding for four 5 ft. snakes. Great odor and moisture absorbancy. Moisture that hits the coir tends to clump, but not solidly. I soften mine up in a 14 gallon poly barrel by jamming the brick into the base (it just fits), and then filling with water to over the top of the brick. By the morning, the entire brick has absorbed the water and can be broken up. Most bricks do not break up so easily, so this was nice to see. I had enough coir from this one 10 lb. brick to fill 3…

Pros
  • Saves Water and Helps the Environment!
Cons
  • Can become compacted over time, reducing air flow to roots

2nd time buying this.!

Definitely NOT a models foot, but let me explain. I used my 9 in. foot and 15.5 in.( ft to calf) leg to show withe and height, because I couldn't find my tape measurer.lol.!I love that this one has a handle to the plastic packaging. Good stuff great price. I'll purchase this brand as long as they sell it for a decent price.!

Pros
  • Coco Bliss Coconut Coir Pith reduces the incidence of plant diseases and pests, creating a healthy and happy garden
Cons
  • May require additional transportation costs

Get it wet first best in my review

Tough to break apart until you get it wet. I used this in blueberry soil and as grass seed cover. Works well. That's my feedback.

Pros
  • Coir
Cons
  • May require additional soil amendments

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Our go to soil best in my review

This is our go to soil now. I love that it doesn't take up much space until we are ready to use it. We purchase the biggest size block and put it in a huge Costco bin to add water to it. then we keep the soil ready for growing micro greens and herbs. this is a much better value than the small individual pods!

Pros
  • I'm new to using this. I really like not lugging big bags of soil around!!!
Cons
  • May not be suitable for all gardening methods

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Packed tight on my review.

Took a while to soak it and get it ready to use but it was a tight brick of coconut husk. I won’t buy it again though. I like the finer coconut coir better that’s loose.

Pros
  • Choosing Coco Bliss Coconut Coir Pith for your garden is a great way to ensure that your plants thrive in a healthy, organic environment
Cons
  • Not recommended for use in commercial agriculture

The 4 star rating is the result of

Four star rating is the result of not being able to use the product as of yet so I am not going to say it's a 5 star product when I don't know if it's easy to use, if is a good for the price I paid, or if it has good absorption. THANKS. will update this product if it's below a 4 star product.

Pros
  • The coir pith is lightweight and easy to handle, making it a great option for anyone with physical limitations
Cons
  • May not be suitable for plants that require high levels of nutrients

Didn't receive 40 lbs of Coco coir

I received 30 lbs of coir. Not 40 lbs. Was supposed to be shipped the missing brick. Two weeks later, still nothing. That's my review.

Pros
  • This product is long-lasting and can be reused multiple times
Cons
  • Can be more difficult to find in rural areas
