Review on LG 34UM88C-P 34 Inch UltraWide 3440X1440P Monitor with Screen Split 2.0, OnScreen Control, Flicker Safe, AMD FreeSync™ Technology by Stephen Barnes

My first ultrawide was 29um67. It supported free sync and the NVIDIA panel refresh rate showed the 75Hz option after free sync was enabled in the monitor settings. Great monitor, never had any problems with it. I then switched to the 34um95 which had horrible flickering, half the display sometimes went blank or half showed an image like I just broke it. Turning it on/off solved the problem. Sold and bought another 34um95. There weren't any flicker issues at all at this point, the only minor issue was that I sometimes saw a vertical tear right down the middle of the screen when I opened the browser in the middle of the screen and tried to scroll the page. Upgrading to 34um88 only because I got it cheaper than I can sell my old 34um95. I like the stand a lot more, it's stronger and has a lot more adjustments. The black color of the stand is also easier on the eyes than the silver of the old one. I haven't noticed any vertical tearing in the middle of the screen, which is an improvement for me. There is no flicker either. Color rendering seems excellent, just like the old one. I thought that all LG monitors with FreeSync support allow you to switch to 75Hz in the NVIDIA Control Panel after enabling the FreeSync setting. I was wrong. Unlike the older 29um67 monitor, this time I didn't get the 75hz setting in the nvidia control panel. I went to the "Create custom resolution" setting (overclocked) and hit 75Hz after enabling "Freesync". Everything seemed to be working fine. After turning on vsync I got stable 75 fps in Unigine 4.0. Then I found out about the testufo website and while shooting with a DSLR at 1/5 shutter speed I found that this monitor dropped frames when overclocked to 75Hz. In fact, any change above 60Hz will result in dropped frames. I tried different DP cables, installed/uninstalled LG monitor driver, tried different picture modes, on/off freesync, nothing worked. It's a shame as my old 29um67 also supported Free Sync and some people on the forums got to 80Hz without dropping frames. Edit: I have both a certified 1.2 cable and an original displayport cable and found that this monitor flickers horizontally when displayport 1.2 is enabled in settings, same problem as 34um95.
