Bought for a "hackintosh" build that didn't interact with the motherboard's onboard audio. I directly connected some small and cheap external speakers. The sound quality and volume were surprisingly good. Much better than I expected. Much louder than I expected. macOS (on a real or jailbroken Mac) recognizes this without any fuss — it just shows up automatically in System Preferences > Sound. No drivers or fuss; it just works.

To simply test this device, I connected the headphone OUT of my MP3 player to the microphone input of this adapter and then the adapter to the USB port of my Dell laptop running Windows 10 Music sounded very good, even through the laptop's small speakers. I bought this to fix a laptop that had a problem with the headphone jack (only one ear worked). This solved the problem. I bought this particular model because I like having a few inches of cord so you don't have a huge plug coming straight out of the USB port. I bought this unit in place of the popular Sabrent because it has a cable on the USB port to disconnect it from the PC (so it only occupies one port). When I plugged in the headset, I only had sound in my right ear. I plugged the 3.5mm into the connection port and started getting static in my left ear. I think I like it. I connect a PCM voice recorder to the output to record the pronunciation in a foreign language. I heard a lot of hissing on the records and thought I needed a better quality cable which I bought. Well I guess it wasn't the cable. What I learned was that it was easy to push the connector in too far and then I encountered the hiss. Pulling the plug slightly eliminated the hissing. It might just be this copy, but I don't think it should be that sensitive to connector placement.
