Great hard drive! Take a hit!

Excellent hard drive. I work in a very harsh environment in the offshore dredging industry and my equipment is exposed to vibration, dust, dirt, rain and so on. The integrated cable is a plus as you know dirt or dust has no chance of getting into the internal components. Some say it's bulky, but it's very strong. If you're looking for a hard drive that'll take on any challenge and come back for new ones, then the minimal investment is worth it. Don't buy junk because it's $30 or $40 cheaper…

Why I used to waste time on a USB 2 backup device

The Buffalo MiniStation Extreme is designed and performs exactly as described. (There is only one wire for the USB 3.0 connector, however. The image may indicate that there are multiple connectors.) The device has a short (2ft?) USB 3.0 connector that allows the drive to be plugged into a hard surface can be placed; not on your processor. I used it for weekly backups for three weeks. Works great with (Win 7) Windows Backup. No additional configuration or setup of the device is required unless…

Faulty product and poor customer service

I've been a Buffalo customer for a long time and have three other external hard drives like this one that I'm happy with. This particular hard drive had a technical issue when it arrived. It crashed every few seconds making each backup a very long and frustrating process. I contacted Buffalo Customer Service who offered to help me troubleshoot the issue. Unfortunately nothing helped after spending almost a week emailing them. After a week their only solution was to either send the drive in for…

Fast, big, portable - at a reasonable price - with an update!

I love this little guy. 7200 RPM, no extra power required, perfect for my Macbook Pro. I run several Windows VMs from it and haven't had any issues with data, speed etc. The extension cable is also a good addition as on a desktop with the machine the attached cable is a bit shorter. I used a 2TB Samsung SSD but it had issues with data corruption in one of the VMs and was a great replacement. set a password for it). Nothing appears to be on the drive until unlocked with an open app. Update…

Great product for computers and accessories

I really love this unit, I've only had it 4 months but it did everything I needed. I have a blog and save a lot of content. , and for a spinning disc it still transfers large files of all kinds very well; It far exceeded my expectations in terms of transfer speed. It stores what I need, and the durability, built-in USB, and sleek looks all add to the product. Durability is a great aspect, it doesn't feel brittle like my old external hard drive which was Seagate; and I feel completely…

Good product but poorly designed software and documentation

Overall the device itself is nice and works as expected once you set it up. I've purchased three versions of Buffalo Encrypted Drives over the past few years. All of them, including this one, have poor documentation and the program's user interface isn't very good. This is particularly bad for third-party encryption software, password settings, or NFC devices - it's just not intuitive, especially if you're trying to change something after the initial setup. As an example, I tried the automatic…

Attention: 10-minute security feature.

wow. It took a little while to understand this drive and get it working. There is a small setup (download, installation, configuration). The documentation leaves a lot to be desired. However, the tech support team spent almost 20 minutes helping me which is why they support their product. The hard drive is delivered unencrypted. You start the disk encryption software. You can use the password or the provided key card or both. Once encrypted, it behaves like two independent drives (unlocked and…
