Customer service could be a lot better. Bluetooth function is not good.

I bought this to "upgrade" to the bluetooth version. It rarely connects, and customer service does not respond to messages, how to help with both this and the complex map application. GPS coverage is good but not great. It's better than anything else on the market and there are many options BUT poor customer service reflects low cost.

Pros
  • Rugged finish
Cons
  • Legacy model

Great product with terrible support

Great product but think twice before going for an annual contract as it is VERY difficult to cancel the auto-renewal required to use the device. I had an old Spot 3 and upgraded to this Spot X. They won't let you cancel auto-renewal online, through their online chat, or via email. The only way to cancel is to wait an hour for them to answer the phone. If you purchase this, DO NOT sign up for annual or monthly service plans.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Discreet lifebuoy for GPS, tracking devices and accessories

The system is simple. Due to the complexity of the vehicle, it paid for itself on its first hike (outside of cellular coverage >20 miles). My only issues are the solid battery, relatively short battery life, and excruciatingly slow upload speeds. However, I would definitely recommend it over the standalone PLB (which this device also has). Bring something to charge!

Pros
  • S.0.S. - Send an SOS signal to the 24/7 search and rescue center, send a message back and forth about the nature of your emergency and receive confirmation when help is on the way.
Cons
  • High price

Complains about not having a clear view of the sky when it's very clear

I had this strapped to my shoulder straps so it rested on my chest, antenna was pointing upwards, it was almost never possible to send a signal when hiking in upstate Wyoming. Set it on the floor as directed and it will only work occasionally. Maybe someday he'll get the signal when you die. Don't expect it to do what you're probably buying it for.

Pros
  • TRACKING. Choose tracking intervals of 2½, 5, 10, 30, or 60 minutes and track your adventures with an easy-to-use SPOT cloud map
Cons
  • Almost OK

Cannot be used for two-way communication.

Pretty disappointing. I expected this device to send text messages in a reasonable amount of time so I could have a little conversation. The average writing time is about 10 minutes. The device freezes regularly. The Bluetooth range is about 4 feet and the phone disconnects frequently. The online map function is cumbersome. Satellite link lost or found. It might be useful for rescue, I haven't tested it. Otherwise it's a big disappointment.

Pros
  • SPOT X APP Simply connect your SPOT X device to the SPOT X App via Bluetooth and access satellite communications

X Spot works great but the app has issues

The system worked great for what I needed. However, it keeps disconnecting from the app, making it more painful than it's worth. So two days later I just stopped using the app and started typing all the messages on the device itself. Otherwise it was a great room, my wife and kids were new, I was safe, checked 3 times a day in an area I normally had no coverage. From time to time the device would throw errors, but just turn the device off and on again and you'll be ready for it every time.

Pros
  • MESSAGE - messaging with any mobile number or email address from almost anywhere in the world
Cons
  • Slightly dented
