Great tool for checking magnetic seals on wheel bearings

We bought 2 of these as wheel bearing checking tools to ensure each of the north/south magnetic poles on the integrated wheel bearing which is also the speed sensor ring for the ABS system is good from packaging and shipping damage. As soon as you put foil on one of these bearings, the magnetic sections in the seal just noticeably pop out and you can tell if any of the tiny magnetic poles are damaged or fine before you start pressing the bearing into the hub assembly. It's a shame we weren't…

Pros
  • Very interesting to see the magnetic field! It is flexible and can be wrapped around the proven magnets
Cons
  • . There are other interesting options.

Wow, perfect size, works great and so cheap!

I've wanted a foil like this for a long time. But most of the ones I've found on the internet are the size of a whole sheet of paper and aren't cheap. If you get it from a "scientific supply company", it will cost a lot and you will have to pay the expensive shipping. I haven't checked in a while so I decided to see if some cheap imports were introduced. Turns out there are quite a few of them. I found one that was cheap but it was tiny. The whole letterhead is too big, but let's not overdo it.

Pros
  • Suitable for all types of permanent magnets such as neodymium, ceramic, SmCo, AlNiCo and flexible magnets. To create a magnetic field, place directly on the magnets
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Playfully observe magnetic fields

This makes playing a lot of fun. I have different types of magnets, each with a different visual effect. Cubic magnets glued in a 4x4 arrangement give very interesting visual effects. I see magnetic fields bending around and between each magnet in the array of magnets. I have several ceramic magnets with multiple poles on each surface. With this film I could actually see exactly where the poles were on the surface of the magnet. All of them are perfectly straight lines on the faces. I could…

Pros
  • The magnetic field pattern remains on the foil and can be analyzed until the next use. A wonderful teaching tool for learning and analyzing magnetism!
Cons
  • Little things
