These pencils don't live up to the hype

I bought a set of 36 Lyra Rembrandt pencils because they are oil based and to add some colors not included in the Faber Castell Polycolor 120 set such as . B. Skin tones. I was disappointed because they leave dust on the paper and aren't as smooth as polychromos. Hooker's green pencil broke 3 times while sharpening and coloring on the same day shortly after I received it. I wrote to the manufacturer and he sent me 2 boxes of 12 each! I don't use this color as often as the other greens because…

I love these pencils at Pencils

I love these pencils. They are made in Germany and have beautiful wooden boxes. They are quite creamy which makes them easy to blend. As a professional artist I have large sets of 5 different brands of colored pencils and these are the ones I use when I need purples and pinks as they have a very good selection. They're pretty soft, so I don't recommend them for details (like pupils), but I like how I can cover large areas without overemphasizing the strokes due to their softness and ability to…

Very nice - Goods for drawing, painting and being creative

I have used colored pencils as a hobby artist for many years. I mainly use Prismacolor Premiers. I also have a set of Caran D'Ache Luminance sticks which are a little creamier but still waxy. Now I have this set of 72 Rembrandt oil pencils. My first foray into them was to make some sort of recreation of the cave art. I am very happy with the vivid colors these pens give. I used a lot of thinner to really get the pigment in the tooth of the paper, it really helps. But overall I like these oil…

Disappointed with pencils

I really like the colors themselves. They are smooth and easy to blend. What I don't like is that they break. A lot of. I've had them for less than a month and already some of them are way shorter than you would reasonably expect. Sometimes the lead starts to wobble while painting. For starters if I cut my losses and sharpen it when it breaks. Only to find there were so many breaks that a quarter of the pencil was sharpened. Now I try to keep the wobbly parts as long as possible. I don't like…

Scratchy crayons

First of all, I can't believe the price is too high. Second, all of the purples in my set of 72 are prickly. I have color proof that it is absolutely awful. I tried to fix it with Prisma Premier but couldn't. I wouldn't spend a dollar on Lyra's crayons. I'm not saying such a thing, but amateurs and colorists are seriously looking elsewhere. If the company offers a good return policy, you can always buy with peace of mind, but that's not the case. I bought these pens some time ago and the price…

I liked the good price of the pens

I use Prismacolor pens that I like but I wanted to expand the range. I've read the reviews, good and bad, and thought this is a good set to start with as the price is right. I hesitated between them and Macro Renior. I chose them mainly based on the reviews. The first impression wasn't the knockout I expected. They are beautiful, feel good in my hand, blend well and hold the point. Some of them are spiny and some are smooth. Based on first impressions I would give them a high 3 or a low 4. Then

Missing a color suitable for drawing tools

I wanted to replace my Prismacolor Premier pens because I was frustrated with the frequent glitches I've had with recent purchases (the ones I have in my 20's are still great!). I decided to try an oil based pencil so I ordered a small set of Faber-Castell Polychromos and LYRA Rembrandt Polycolor. After using both brands for a month, I decided to buy a full set of 72 LYRA Polycolors. While I found the color applied to paper to be similar and it was easy for me to use both brands together, I…

Better than the current "best ".

I have several artist quality colored pencils. A few of these are very good. Including Caran d'Ache Luminance wax color, oil-based Faber-Castell Polychromos, wax-based Prismacolor Premier and oil-based Caran d'Ache Pablo. I've had the opportunity to work with the finest products made today. To be honest they are the best for me. They seem to me lighter, more comfortable to hold and handle, and thinner than all the others. They hold the point longer than my polychromos. The kernels are generous.

Pretty good, but that's why 4 stars and not 5 stars

I have a lot of crayons, from very cheap to prohibitively expensive. I've heard a lot of good things about Lyra crayons so I decided to take a chance and buy them. Here are the reasons I gave these pens 4 stars and not 5 stars. First, like some other reviewers, I received a duplicate of one of the pencils - Venetian Red. If the kit had been cheaper I might not have objected as much, but for the price I paid the quality control I think would have should be better. The pens themselves are pretty…

Terrible! Nothing like my old Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor pencils.

This is so disappointing. I bought a couple of Lyra Rembrandt pencils from open storage in January. All stores (Revain, Blick, Jerry's Artarama, etc.) were absent from 72 such stores at the time. I ended up buying another brand but loved this one and was hoping to eventually add 72 sets to my collection. My ORIGINAL Lyra pencils were smooth and soft enough to glide easily across the paper. They were easy to apply in very light layers, blended out like a dream and were overall fun. The only…
