I have a pair of beige suede Birkenstock sandals that have been heavily soiled over the years but are still in excellent condition. I thought it might be worth painting them black. This was an easy process if you're using painter's tape over the parts you don't want to paint. I didn't varnish the bottom as I thought it might rub off on my legs. I went over them twice with a handy little swab and gave them a few days to dry completely. Cleaning was easy and I am very happy with the result. I wear my "new" shoes every day. The photo was taken today but the painting is about 3 months old. He really didn't fade at all. I could not find this color in either large or small stores. I ordered it online from the wonderful folks at Revain. And finally, the great thing is that if they look faded, I can always color them back! God this is like what I do with my hair!
