Review on AIRCARE 1043 Replacement Space Saver Wick (1): Optimal Air Quality Solution by Michael Vargas

This wick is excellent at dissipating moisture into the air. I have two 6 gallon humidifiers that these wicks are rated for and they keep my duplex comfortable all winter, even though I have an old, leaky HVAC system that constantly sucks in some cold, dry outside air. The same properties that make this wick so effective also make it too soft to support its own weight when wet. Essick Air tried to fix this by folding the wicking material and reinforcing it with horizontal hot glue strips, but that wasn't enough. The entire wick will sag under its own weight within 2 months and become virtually useless. Cardboard strips embedded in the wicking material could help a lot, as is the case with wicks for other brands of humidifiers. In the meantime I took one of my spare wicks and reinforced it with diagonal stripes of hot glue as well as horizontal stripes. Hot glue along the top and bottom edges. I'll update this review in a few months once I know if it worked. If it works, it won't free Essick Air from producing stronger wicks, but maybe at least it will give them a solution to implement at the factory.
