Review on POLAR IGNITE Waterproof Precision Integrated by Michael Schwegman

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Better for people who train a lot/lots/hours and have failed completely by 6 months.

****Edit***** Watch completely broken after 6 months of ownership. I put it on in the morning, worked and everything is fine. I got ready for work, went to the office and the watch is completely dead, not responding to user actions. The battery was at 100% at the beginning of the day. I should preface this by saying that I am not training for a marathon, triathlon or any other form of athleticism. In fact, those days are behind me. I think I'm more active than a lot of people in my age group, although I'm sure I'm not as active as others. I had one of the cheap fitness trackers and didn't really bother with it. What attracted me to Polar was that it records indoor rowing, which other brands don't. The clock works well and I find it quite accurate. More accurate than other brands than I've used. I found the interface a little confusing at first, but I figured it out pretty quickly. The activity levels seem ridiculously complex. I'm on the lowest settings and my chances of being 100% active on a typical day are pretty slim. Not because I haven't done anything all day. Granted, I have a sedentary job, but I try to get up and move whenever possible. As an example of activity level, I had one day where I ran almost 6 miles and did an hour of strength training at the gym. I think I hit an activity level of 103%. So I have to do it every day to reach my level. Not only does that not happen, it also makes no sense to exercise. Of course, if I do interval runs or something intense that would be considered more active, but then again, I'm just a regular Joe trying to maintain at least some semblance of physical fitness. If I row 5,000 meters, that's less than 30% activity for me. So Polar expects me to row 15,000 meters a day. I'm ready for 5k. Out of curiosity, I once tried to get 100% by just taking steps. just go. 100% activity was achieved with almost 19,000 steps. So basically 10 miles of steps a day. Does not happen. A typical step per day for me is usually between 9 and 12,000 steps. So my activity level is around 50%. Even if I go to the gym, I still can't do it 100%. I tried to sleep, but I didn't like the watch on my wrist at night. First, the screen lights up when you move. I found it annoying. Even when you lock the screen, the green indicators below the clock show your heart rate. I just didn't care. One night I didn't sleep well and the clock said so. I really have no reason to give the watch a bad review. It works well. In my particular case, I use it to track my activity and take the recommended values with a lot of confidence.
