My old Seagate Central died after 7 years. Luckily my data was backed up and some small works were lost. Being able to do frequent backups without having to have a RAID configuration (ie more expensive) and using my decent 8TB external Seagate was very important to me. I found that Synology has an app called USB COPY that lets you do this, so I went with the 1-bay Synology: works like a charm. This WD drive originally had a terrible sound, really ugly. loud and the audio was particularly annoying, I wanted to blame this WD but found it to be a Synology DS; fixed some DS and the noise level is now acceptable, just didn't want to mess around with the drive cooling.
