Meat thermometer Loser

Meat thermometers come in a variety of models and can turn your head. But I chose this model from the crowd because I liked the look of it. Not very scientific I know but thought since Norpro makes a lot of kitchen appliances and accessories it might be worth a try. The Norpro meat thermometer has an extra long 8 inch probe and is great for keeping your hand off a hot pan, stove or grill. The digital display is great, it's big and easy to read. I particularly like the seven preset modes - all you have to do is select the type of meat you want to cook and the sensor will automatically display the correct target temperature and real-time temperature. Readings appear very quickly - about two to three seconds. Norpro also has a "custom" mode that simply reads the temperature without any prior settings. I tested the accuracy of this device in a mug full of ice and it read 32 degrees - right on the dot. As an added bonus, the device will beep when the meat has reached the right degree. For beef there is a setting that allows you to select Medium Rare, Medium Rare or Well Done. This meat thermometer has many features not found on devices that cost much more compared to others. As for the review claiming that this device melts - under normal circumstances this cannot happen. I suspect the reviewer accidentally melted the unit by leaving it in the oven while cooking, or left it over the grill and forgot to take it out. ALL devices will melt if you do this. I love Norpro and am glad I took the risk.
