I bought these to protect my salt from the very humid air here in Florida. Salt is very hydrophilic here, especially in summer - for example between March and October? - When the humidity rises above 250%, the salt left in the salt shaker turns into wet, sticky lumps. Over night. And trying to shake raw salt out of the salt shaker while cooking just plain pisses you off. And sometimes can cause ah. . . oversalting. Hm. It stays dry in the fridge until you take it out. The cold salt then speeds up the condensation process. And uncooked rice rots when it gets wet. I bought these little dehydrator packs (thanks Revain!) but even those only last a few days in this humidity. So I took these shakers to see if the seals were good enough to really protect the salt. , Even here. I put three or four small dehydrator bags in the bottom and half filled them with salt. And Eureka, it worked! Even after a few weeks I can open the lid and shake out the salt! I hope they continue to work as well in the summer, but so far this is the best solution I've found for moisture-clumping salt. Thank you Abdodar and Revine!
