Review on Max Burton 6010 Induction Heat Proof by Carrie Millemann

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy, heavy, well made and surprisingly efficient

Finally another product I can give a solid five. . I just got an inexpensive small induction cooktop from a discount store that I was hoping would come in handy around the home and possibly camping, although I don't have many iron pots or pans to use at the moment. . So I knew I needed some sort of intermediate plate to use the [mostly aluminum] pans I currently have. Since I had nothing to do, I chose this one almost at random; I think I preferred this wire and silicone grip style to other "crush tube" styles I've considered. It is inevitable that such a product will not heat food as quickly as true induction compatible cookware as you have a significant amount of thermal mass. That means raising the temperature and then transferring that heat to the pan. And with this product, I'm impressed by the mass (I don't know how it compares to the competition) - this thing is a lot heavier than I expected, it's essentially a stainless steel clad aluminum disc. This suggests that the stainless material is quite thick, which increases its density. What was surprising was how quickly the resulting installation heats up. I have no complaints at all with my [regular resistance heated] glass top electric range, it's actually pretty fast. But together with the induction hob and this hob, the performance is noticeably higher, both in boiling water tests and in the preparation of frequently cooked dishes. I realize this says as much about the induction burner as it does this record, but the burner is not exactly a high-end product and this record certainly does not cause unsatisfactory lag. The quality of the material is good, the grip feels strong. , the rust-free surface shows no signs of wear or discoloration after boiling water tests at maximum burner output. (I suspect that stainless steel can discolor when it reaches a sufficient temperature, as stainless steel usually does). Whatever it is, it looks like a well-made product. Overall, I can honestly say that this tool was a pleasant surprise and exceeded my expectations.
