I bought a Quicktionary device to learn Spanish. I have already used Franklin's Pocket Electronic Dictionary and wanted to add to it. If I had to choose between the two, I would leave Franklin. Although a bit slower and requires typing words, Franklin has more features like conjugation, games etc., is cheaper and smaller and can be carried in the pocket. Quicktionary is pretty functional once you get used to the scanning technique. Sometimes you have to scan more than once to find the right word. Its disadvantages are that it is slow to load and process scanned words. It also can't help if the word is split on two lines. Its advantage is that it can scan an entire printout or line. This makes it a good addition to the electronic dictionary, but it cannot replace it. You have to accept this opinion with one caveat: I have not read the instructions for any of the devices and only used them intuitively. There may be other features that I'm not aware of.
