Not as expected! fits external components

I am very dissatisfied with this purchase. After using this external DVD player for homeschooling my child for 30 days, it stopped working. When my husband called LG for support, they said we needed to buy movie playback software because our 30 day trial had expired. Who would buy a DVD player and then have to buy a second piece of software to play the movie! There is no mention on Amazon, on the box, or instructions in the box that you need to purchase any movie playback software. I don't have a really working DVD player. The worst thing is that I don't get my money back!
