Problems on Windows. . . not compatible with Mac

This digital microscope can be useful in a number of ways, e.g. For example, viewing coins, reading labels or instructions printed in very small print, and exploring the barely visible world around you. However, there are two issues I would like to warn other potential buyers about. On objects like coins or other reflective surfaces, it's difficult to adjust the light to see detail. The light from the LED source is not adjustable and so close to the object being viewed that the image is either completely blurry or badly degraded. This is not a problem for non-reflective surfaces such as paper. The second issue is Mac compatibility. Although the promotional material states that it can be used on a Mac, this is only partially true. What I've learned over the months of emailing and phoning Celestron Tech Support is that the product was designed to be compatible with the Mac. During production, some units have been completed to specifications and are operational. The second pass of the oscilloscopes was not compatible immediately after installation, but with a lot of manipulation in Quicktime, Image Capture, iChat or PhotoBooth, some people have had limited success and you can read their stories on various forums. However, a significant number of devices are simply not compatible with the Mac. You were done wrong. Unfortunately, while Celestron went on to point out that they were "trying" to create a software fix to "avoid replacing devices purchased by Mac owners," they were actually biding their time. More than six months later (as of April 2011) they admitted that some areas weren't working with the Mac and "we're still working on a fix and aren't currently shipping replacement products or other products, especially if that should be the case" . will not work on Mac. So no repairs and no exchanges. If you have a Windows product and are not affected by the inability to control the light source, it may work for you. Buyer Warning.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
