I bought a 12"x18" board. It's very heavy, which is good for keeping the board in place during use, but a little annoying when you're trying to clean up in a sink that's not big enough anyway. The rubber is pretty hard; tougher than expected but I get knife cuts on the surface so I think it's still safe for my knives. Incidentally, cuts do not heal on their own. If it gets bad I'm sure I can sand down the surface and reveal a smooth layer. There's a dark spot on the board, some kind of dope that shouldn't be there, but it doesn't matter - I just mostly use the other side. My biggest complaint is the strong, unpleasant odor coming from the board. It's so bad my wife doesn't even use it. Tried leaving it on good airflow for a few days, washed it over and over again but no difference. The smell comes from the core of the board. Maybe the rubber in mine was improperly cured? I probably should have returned this board as defective upon receipt but didn't really want to deal with it.
