Perfect fit for 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT 2WD

I am replacing my transmission pan so it has a drain plug which Dodge didn't put in their original pan. A drain plug makes changing the oil and filter MUCH cleaner and easier. (See tip below if you still have the original pan and want to replace the filter clean) This filter, WIX 58846, is designed for transmissions with a flat pan as shown in the photo. If you have a deep sump you will need WIX 58843. The two filters look the same but if you look at them side by side you will notice that the shallow sump's shallow filter intake is larger. in one direction and a deep pan closer to the center. From my research, shallow pans are for 2WD and deep pans are for 4WD. But that's not always the case. Before you begin, take a look at your gearbox to determine what style you need to save time ordering the right part. ***Tip for an Easier and Cleaner Oil Change If you are replacing the original pan, use a 1/4" self-tapping screw and drill through the bottom of the pan. You'll be replacing the pan anyway, so it doesn't matter if it has a hole. The important thing is that you use a short screw. DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION IF A LARGE SCREW IS USED! The photo shows the screw I used. Then loosen the screw to allow the oil to drain into a large container overnight. Using a cordless screwdriver, I quickly removed the screw and dropped the screw into the drip tray. That way the oil doesn't run down my arm. I got about 9 liters (over 2 gallons and not a drop on the floor!) so make sure your container is big enough to hold this. Then insert another to plug the hole while removing the pan. It is recommended to use a drill, otherwise you may drill a hole in the valve body. Also, you'll get oil all over the drill once you drill through the pan, defeating the purpose of a clean process.
