I bought my first Peppermate when I saw that Ina Garten, the barefoot countess was using it, so I thought it was a good investment. Twelve years later and it still works great! I recently bought a bag of Himalayan Pink Salt and it needed its own grinder so I bought another Peppermate. I'm sure it will last as long as the first one. I like that they aren't too heavy like most pepper mills, which means they aren't easily knocked over. Also, they're so easy to fill, easy to hold, and seem easier to grind since you're using your fingers OR your wrists. In other words, if you have arthritis in your fingers, you can use your wrists; If you have arthritis in your wrists, you can use your fingers. If you can use an old-fashioned can opener with turnkey operation, you can use this meat grinder. Finally, I love that I can grind as much as I want, straight into the beaker below when I want to measure, rather than just grinding a pot or plate. When a recipe calls for a specific amount of salt or pepper and that's important to the recipe, this little "collectible cup" on the floor is just the ticket!
