Review on Performance Tool W32139 Extension 3 Piece by Johnnie Trimble

Minimal functionality, poor workmanship

I bought this extension set at a hardware store. I was preparing for a timing belt job and chose this kit to help me get to the engine bay to remove the engine side mounting bolts and harmonic balancer. Some flex in overtime is inevitable, but that was just ridiculous. The engine mounting bolts are torqued to approximately 40 ft-lbs. This machine is from 2007, so the screws were still tightened at the factory. The 18" extension had so many kinks that when the nut snapped, a massive shock wave went through the extension and I almost lost my grip on the ratchet from the ricochet. I should have thought if it didn't do such light work with no problems then why would they try a harmonic balancer screw that would require so much more torque? Well yes I did. I tried both 18" and 24". Immediately the thin chrome peeled off and the extensions twisted one at a time just cut in half like a set of cleaned chrome rollers. I didn't bother trying the 30". Don't even try using them with a torque wrench - the metal bends so easily that You never get an accurate reading.I took the twisted pile of broken metal back to the store and bought another set.The only reason I got this one What gives the product no stars is the low price ($23.57 CAD at the time of writing) - at least you can't say you're being ripped off.

Pros
  • Chrome plated with knurled handle
Cons
  • Piggy bank price
