Danger: causes hard drives to crash + UPDATE: DESTROYS DRIVES

The power supply does not actually supply power to any of the blue ports. It looks like the AC power is only powering the red terminals. Be careful when plugging anything into the blue ports (which can transfer data to and from your computer). The power supply drops, causing power outages and permanently damaging the external hard drive. You will notice that the blue lights will blink in this case. If a drive is connected, it will be corrupted. UPDATE: May 1st, 2021 I connected a new hard drive, just unpacked. This Atolla hub failed again, physically damaging the new drive. Many drives become corrupted during shutdown. The current dropped here, but not enough to cause a blackout. You see this from time to time when the light in the lamp flickers down and then flickers again. If you see this, your data is at risk. Everyone tells you about the risk of power surges and you need to take that into account, but outages are more damaging and can give you endless headaches. I had a client who moved to a new building on the 8th floor. All of their computers worked great except for three computers that needed a full cleaning every two weeks. They thought we were doing our job wrong when there were no problems on other computers. I explained that I thought electricity would cause blackouts, but they didn't believe me. So I brought my voltage regulated UPS (VERY IMPORTANT) and plugged it into a medium machine. Then we all three cleaned again. Two weeks later the middle one was working without a single failure and the other two were gliding again. After this demonstration, they went to the building manager to discuss the problem. They found that the external outlet we were using was plugged into the same circuit as the elevators. Very frustrating. Very dangerous.

Pros
  • Simple switch to control
Cons
  • Exorbitant price
