It radiates enough heat to warm a medium sized room while staying cool. I was concerned that the fan was near the carpet, but I turned it on all night and the carpet stayed at room temperature. Very happy with my purchase. Easy to set up, came earlier than expected. Flames and glowing embers look beautiful. I think you can tell they are not real if you try, but the overall effect is very cozy and real enough. Glass and metal doors reinforce the effect. The heater fan makes a low noise level. It's soft and I find it relaxing. This is about the same level as our regular fan heaters. A faint click can be heard when the heater is switched off. I'm not sure what it is, but I suspect it's made by a mechanism that creates flame effects. This is not felt when the heating is switched on.
