Let me start by saying that I am very happy with this product. externally with a key and there is no alternate internal locking mechanism that is not externally accessible. We bought it mainly out of concern that the maintenance and admin staff would have the keys to our door. And while this shouldn't be a problem, it's still not very pleasant to realize that our only lock is technically very vulnerable if the key falls into the wrong hands. I was a little skeptical about this little lock at first, but after reading the reviews and understanding how it works I went for it. Let me just say this is not a problem. Especially for people in a similar situation to mine, but a good choice for those looking for extra security. Now I sleep much better at night. I was able to install it in less than 5 minutes using a pencil, drill, drill and Phillips screwdriver. The instructions left a lot to be desired, but if you have eyes and the ability to process thoughts, you should be able to pull it off without a problem. What's nice for people who live in apartments and are concerned about drilling holes is that the 4 required holes are hidden in the door frame and not visible unless the door is open. Even then, they're barely noticeable if you ever decide to remove them. They could just plaster and paint the wood and there would be no evidence that this ever happened. Now let's get to the good. This item is RELIABLE. No one can get past it without destroying the entire door and shroud. And it's also extremely easy to turn on and off. I replaced the included screws with 3" screws for extra security. The included screws were a little short in my opinion, but I'm sure they would work fine. If you're looking for a little more tranquility, this little guy is for you. I decided to subtract the star for less than the star instruction and the shorter screws desired. But, like I said, this thing is easy to install, and common sense easily fills in what's missing in the instructions. And when it comes down to it, screws were a personal preference. It's clear that this should appeal to a wide range of applications, so the screws should reflect that. It's easy and cheap enough to grab a box of 3" screws (unless you somehow already have a box) if you wish and use those instead. I can't deduct any stars for that. In general. I will buy it again and recommend it to anyone who needs a similar solution.
