It's a good design, possibly better than the original.

Nice design, possibly better than the original. Seems to be stronger. The time will show. THIS was purchased from Revain.com LLC and not some random reseller. Our original reel has deviated from the spring pressure. I can only assume a manufacturing defect as it broke from simple stress. It has been on my to do list for 6 months and I finally met my body shop friend to install it over the weekend. We waited 20 minutes but it took an hour and a half. This was partly due to problems with the instrument. A NOTICE. I had a wrong idea about this topic. I thought it was a hinge pin but it's not. Replacing THIS "roller pin" will keep both hinge pins in place and you will NOT need an extra person to hold the door. This was actually the part I needed, but it doesn't seem to support the weight of the door at all. THIS pin is designed solely to hold the door in a firm latched position EXCEPT that it will also affect the door lock latching properly. We had an issue with a door wanting to open while driving, which apparently was fixed by replacing that roller pin. - Actual installation. STEP 1. My mechanic decided to use a saw to make 2 slits in the old pin. (skin tight). First I cut off the middle of the pin, then I cut off the top mushroom shaped part. Unfortunately, the fragments fell directly into the wing (bang, bang, bang). He undid a couple of screws, one inside the hinge and one underneath, and the pieces fell out instantly. Trying to catch it with a magnet was useless. This is also a good time to clear the gutter area of pine needles and debris. Step 2. The top post easily slides into the loop. We didn't have much success trying to repel the sub. So he took his grinder and shaved off some of the edges of the ridges on the bottom of the pencil. He just brushed his teeth a little, a very light touch. Viola! The pin twisted and it took just as many hits with a 1/4 inch hammer to fix it. This was the key to success. Then he installed a C-clip and we tried it. It was perfect. The wing screws mounted and off you go! The door now closes and latches properly and the lock no longer appears to be stuck on the pin. The door now stops at different opening angles. Apparently my real hinge had no problems with the pin at all. - Conclusion: Good product, good price. - I feel a slight tension on the pin when I first open the door, so I'll lubricate it.
