Without K&N KN-163 Filter Removing the old filter from a BMW K-Bike requires a special (or custom) oil filter removal tool. Realizing the ridiculousness, K&N added a 17mm nut to the bottom of the filter to make it easier to work with. I suspect BMW designed the filter system to lure you into the BMW dealership for an oil change - other options wander around town looking for a metal oil filter wrench and grind it until it fits in the narrow gap between the filter and the block engine. To remove my old (non-K&N) filter I tried a ground plastic hose but it was too flimsy and bent instead of unscrewing the old filter. I ended up digging two awls into the ground and digging out the filter from side to side - wow what a mess! With these filters you can take a filter with a 17mm head or a socket wrench and do it - great thing! Thanks K&N
