It is almost impossible to insert the filter wrench into the K1200RS oil pan to remove it. The hex head used in K&N filters is worth its weight in gold, and K&N's reputation for quality filters precedes them. This is the only filter I've used in the last few years.

Works great with BMW oil heads. My old oil filling routine always started with going through every filter wrench I had and often ended with a hammer and two screwdrivers. With that, you just put your head on the nut and the old filter shuts itself off before you even have time to say any bad language or toss the wrench across the driveway. I've been using them for my two oil caps for two years now and will probably continue as long as they're available.

how do you like the oil filter? Well what I removed was the same and the previous owner installed it without thinking of tearing it down (very tightly). When I tried to take it off, the wrench started rounding the nut but didn't break. Eventually with the help of a vise I was able to remove the old filter and when I looked at the nut it was rounded but again it never broke like anyone else would have after going through everything I've been through it passed .

Came well packaged with cellophane seal over gasket and a hole to prevent contamination prior to installation. Built on an eyelet head, saves lives when you can't find the right filter wrench. I have a BMW R1100R and none of my filter wrenches have been able to remove the stock BMW filter as there is a very small gap between the filter and the filter well. Also, the filter was dirty so grabbing it to flip it was a pain. Now that I have K&N I will never switch to another brand!

Very very very bad quality. Key released after 1/2 turn and no pressure. Upon inspection I found that the nut was very loosely bonded with a small patch of glue. Not welded, not formed or at least crimped. Just a little dab of glue. The MOST UNFORTUNATE part of this story is that they don't have ribs on their filters to tighten them by hand or with a filter wrench, nor in the recess of the bike. Without K&N KN-163 Filter Removing the old filter from a BMW K-Bike requires a special (or custom) oil filter removal tool.
