I have never changed my chain, I have always trusted the store to do it. I usually buy a SRAM PC 1091R HollowPin chain at the store for $46 and then $10 for 2 minutes of work to install on my bike. I decided to try it myself. You can do it without this tool (I watch about 20 YouTube videos) but this inexpensive tool makes it much easier. My bike uses 56 outer links (including the main link). So I just went along with it and everything worked out great. $15 saved (more than the cost of this tool). And I got a VIP discount on the instrument.
