Review on 🌧️ Waterproof and Easy-to-Apply Liquid Rubber Concrete Foundation Sealant - Outdoor & Indoor Coating, Black, 5 Gallon by Tim Roby

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is the cheapest way to waterproof your basement!

Considering the cost, the real high quality of the product and the "relative" ease of application on external and internal walls; I think this is one of the BEST products out there! I'm a retired Civil and Mechanical Engineer and well into my 60s, so when I see and use it I know and appreciate a quality product! I can leave my odd jobs or even quasi-big jobs like basement waterproofing to someone else. However, I am retired and have far too much time on my hands and this "caulking job" had to be done this way for the sake of brevity. basement walls, whether cinder blocks or flagstones). In my case, I had to scrape off the old lime-based cement that had been used between the stone foundations of my walled, 120-year-old Brooklyn brownstone row house share house because it had simply disintegrated after so many years of moisture and water infiltration. I patched the holes in the joints with hydraulic cement (relatively cheap, even on this site OR from a big box) and let it dry because hydraulic cement dries so quickly you can only use very small batches at a time. I didn't say it's a quick job, but it's not rocket science either, so all you need is time and patience. Although I didn't have to do this, I covered the interior walls of the basement with Sakcrete cement "surface or mortar", which is pre-mixed, easy to apply AND has a long working time relative to the batch size. I felt that a liquid rubber foundation sealer was better "bought" or attached to the coated stone slate surface. Once all the surfaces were prepped, it was easy to apply the material (using a whitewash brush in my case, but on flat surfaces like a cement block wall, a medium hair roller works well). I would recommend applying between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit for the best even drying time, but of course humidity will be a factor. This product dries to a medium "stickiness" so I would allow a few extra days to dry if it fits into your work schedule and if you want to paint black rubber stock. There's no reason NOT to make it black, but I find that white or a lighter color helps diffuse the light and is a bit nicer to look at. These are basically the instructions on the tin but if you go to their website (also the tin and the Revain product webpage) you will find more information on applications/coverages etc! I highly recommend this stuff, I've used many other brands in similar situations including the funny looking and sounding guy on TV in his "flexible locking rubber grate" and I find this stuff not only more effective but MUCH cheaper and at the same time period, it is much better to use.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • I have no particular complaints about it, everything is fine
