This has been used as intended - to give us more freedom in the trailer to vehicle connection. We used a longer hitch on the car and on one occasion we drove without this extension cord, the trailer cord ripped out of the car socket, was dragged across the ground and nearly destroyed, and we didn't have any lights on the trailer by the time we were caught by a passing car warned. It's a little too long and we take up the sag by tying it to the hitch.
