Review on XCSOURCE Mountain Crankset Aluminum CS400 by Tyson Burch

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good first impression

This is a first review. Today I received and installed this crank and bottom bracket in place of my old broken square bar mountain bike bottom bracket that I didn't want to invest a lot of money in. At $42 PLUS the $9 tool I didn't have, it was an affordable "upgrade" (we'll see) when I was looking for a bottom bracket replacement anyway. It appears to be well made, with high quality forging and machining, while being light in weight compared to the old set. Really amazing what you get at this price. There is nothing to say about technology, metallurgy or the quality of the bearings, only time will tell. Everything went as expected and I am very happy with the first results. Please note that this is just a first installation overview and first impressions after installing the product and has not been extensively tested for strength or durability which will take time. My only complaint at the moment is that it arrived with all the parts disassembled in a bag with a broken seal, no seal or packaging so the parts already had some scratches and scuffs. It's not really a problem since it happens on a mountain bike anyway. It appears to be a returned open product that should not be sold as new.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
