Review on D1080N Diablo 10 Inch Non Ferrous PermaShield by Dave Hock

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I usually trust Freud, but this blade is disappointing

I use Freud blades almost exclusively, so I bought these for a project where I needed to put my foot on a 3/16 inch thick aluminum L-profile. I have a lot of experience cutting aluminum and plastic, so I have realistic expectations as to the quality of the cut I can expect. The first thing I noticed was that I was having a hard time keeping the material on the fence and then the resulting cut deteriorated rapidly along the length of the 3 foot duct. I examined the blade and found that all of the teeth were bonded, which would explain the deterioration in cut quality. I cleaned all of the teeth (which took a while) and noticed that the teeth were taped unevenly, one half of the blade was taped on the right side of the teeth and the other side of the blade was taped on the left side, what's on it indicating that the blade wobbled. After cleaning, I ran the blade and watched it slow down after turning off the machine and noticed that it definitely had quite a bit of wobble. I was concerned it was my mandrel (which I had recently replaced with a brand new one) so I replaced the blade with my trusty old Freud combo blade to make sure it worked properly as you can tell by eye. Anyway, disappointed the blade isn't true. Hopefully the company will read this and offer me a new one. If they send me a new one that meets the quality expectations I will change my rating. Until then there are 2 stars.
