Has a horrible smell…

I love Halloween and used to make mats with snap hooks as a kid so thought it would be great to come back to that. Snap hooks relax me and as a kid I used them all the time to relieve anxiety. Because of that, I was excited to get back to it and help on that front. The end result is very charming and I love the carry case that comes with everything. However, the canvas smells absolutely awful. The smell is so awful I could only walk about three rows and had to stop. I have to wash the canvas several times to get the smell out. I also think the pattern on the canvas could be a bit better. It was difficult to determine where to start between the instructions and the canvas itself. I plan to add extra pieces of yarn not listed in the chart in areas where it seems like there should be color but there isn't. Most snap hook sets I've made go pretty straight to the edge and this one has some big gaps around the edges as far as I can see. The hook itself is fine. The handle is cheap plastic that's practically impossible to hold on to. However, it's very light because it's so cheap, so it's good if you're concerned about the weight of a solid wood grip or a thicker rubber grip. The hook is good enough for a beginner, but I'd invest in a good one, which just feels better in the hand if you plan on making it a regular hobby.
