Review on SuperSprings SSR-209-40 , SumoSprings Blue Rear for Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 by Walter Day

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for tractor unit

Firstly, unless you regularly tow a trailer with excessive drawbar loads or load a lot of weight in the bed of the truck, you don't need it. Stop looking, they're no good for the daily driver or the guy towing a 12-foot, open-terrain trailer. You'll just end up wasting money on a butt that's too tight. They're also not great off-road, as they limit travel and try to get the low-profile tire off the ground on rough terrain. As I drove through deep, loose beach sand at 5 mph, my rear tires jumped so much that OnStar called 911 for me twice an hour. At the same time, these things are hard to beat for their intended purpose. When you start gaining weight, you have 2 inches of sag before the springs make contact and begin to hold the weight. The trailer I tow regularly has a drawbar weight of about 600 pounds and I had less than 3 inches of total sag, which is pretty decent for a half-ton pickup! The rear definitely feels more down-to-earth, and with the heavy truck traffic you hardly feel the trailer through the steering wheel. Worth its weight in gold if you drive a lot of loaded kilometers. Installation took 15-20 minutes maximum, with most of the time being spent unbolting the stock fenders. Easy enough that when I know I won't be towing for a week or two, I swap them out for regular fenders and enjoy a factory ride that lasts 5-10 minutes after you've done it a few times. once. There is a gap between the bottom of the cup that holds the factory bumper and the bottom of the plate of these springs which comes with a stack of washers used as spacers. Instead, I cut out some 3/8" sockets to use as spacers, which made the installation more secure. That minor issue aside, they get 5 stars from me every day of the week, and I would recommend them to anyone checking their truck towing/hauling restrictions.
