Review on ๐Ÿ”ง TEKTON #3 Phillips High-Torque Screwdriver with Black Oxide Blade - 26683: Sturdy and Reliable Tool for Versatile Use by Scott Ramu

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Inaccurate Phillips tip, questionable alloy, useless finish

I ordered this screwdriver because I have other Tekton tools that are of decent quality and have worked well over the years. Another reason was that Phillips #3 screwdrivers almost always have 6" shanks, but this Tekton model has a 4" shank and is just over 8" long overall, which would be great for working in tight spaces . Upon closer inspection, however, I wasn't very impressed with this 1. The tip is a bit unusual for Phillips #3 - the very end is "chipped", not square. Wiha drivers that are very tight. 2) The alloy is suspect and the black oxide coating seems like a gimmick to me. I wiped what appeared to be rust or rust inhibitor off the packaging. Chrome vanadium alloys do not rust - easily - nor do they require an inhibitor. But alloy tool steel (like drill bits) or most black oxide coated alloys will rust and are usually impregnated with a rust inhibitor. Socket wrench screwdrivers, and the shape is definitely better than the ubiquitous butyrate plastic handles you see in hardware store screwdrivers. But after prolonged use, I'm not so sure anymore. My hand is fairly large (not huge), but my thumb would be on the middle "bulge" of the grip. I'm not sure if it's my fault or if it takes some getting used to, but it felt wrong to me. For an additional $3, you can pick up a Phillips #3 Series 552 Felo Screwdriver, which is made from the toughest CVM steel, with a pristine tip, a hex-reinforced monster hex shank that runs through the entire handle, and ending in a percussion cap at the top. Check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E60OCY I think Tekton needs to be made a little better to take its place among quality tools.
