Reliable 4K player, easy to use

The Sony UBP-X700 is a replacement for the former UBP-X800. The new player is smaller and lighter than its predecessor. It's roughly the same size as Sony's latest Blu-ray players. It produces crisp 4K images that look like they came from a more expensive player. Setup is very easy - just select your language and set up your wireless connection. Most of the default settings work fine for most users. The operation is very intuitive. When the splash screen appears, press the open/eject button, insert a disc and press PLAY and you're done. This 4K player has 2 HDMI outputs, one for audio/video and one for audio only. This is very convenient when using the receiver with this player. Sony has introduced the latest video technology, Dolby Vision, to the X700. This gives a brighter image with better contrast. Note that this feature is not present by default. You'll need to update to the latest Sony firmware to get this technology, which wasn't available on the previous X800 model. There are a few minor complaints about the X700. The main issue is that the included remote control is smaller than last year's model. Good luck with the remote if you have big fingers. It's nice that the X700 takes up less space, but its light weight can't keep it stable when you press the open/eject button. The X700 weighs just over 3 pounds while the previous model weighed 8-1/2 pounds. The Sony UBP-X700 is a solid 4K player. When it was first released, it cost $250. Currently, the price is less than $200. This makes it a great deal for anyone looking for a feature-rich 4K player.
