Great programmable Wi-Fi chips. The stock firmwares aren't very good, but they can be flashed. I haven't tried updating them via OTA, but flashing from the Arduino IDE worked fine - you just need to set CH_PD high and GPIO0 low, then connect the reset pin to ground first. I had some issues connecting to the API over HTTPS. , but was able to get around this by setting up an AWS reseller.
