I bought these hoping to get a cheaper option than colored root tabs. I was wrong, you get what you pay for. Just buy a growing medium. These pods were dug about 2.5 inches under the river's fine gravel, and after a day or two a strange slimy lump emerged from among the plants. They never seemed to do what I needed. I did a test and used Seachem root tablets under 4 plants and these capsules under 4 tablets. After a few weeks, the differences became apparent: plants with root inserts grew over 4 inches, while those with these protrusions only grew 1.75 inches. I used CO2 injection and liquid flotation in the comparison tank.
