Review on OTC 7544 24Mm Strut Socket by Fred Meeks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Locker required

Updated 21/02/2016 I ended up using the Volvo version of this tool as it was designed as a kit with a locker and fits better. The Volvo version is higher and bigger. I used two broken 1/2" bars, each extended to 42" to tighten the strut nut while holding the stem - I had no one to help me so I had to hold the stem while tightening - like straightening shears. Too much force was used and the mating knob cut into the strut brace and pushed it out, but I was able to tighten the turret nut in the car. The stable SK brake bracket has bent, but fortunately it hasn't broken. It was more correct to tighten the strut nut with the strut removed and the spring compressed so it didn't require a lot of force. but I didn't have the tools at the time. With the right tools in hand I was too lazy to remove the struts and recompress the springs to make tightening easier and also because I would have to realign them. Lesson: Prepare the right tools before you begin. otherwise it would require a lot of extra work. This is the right tool if you have a 24mm strut nut but it's important to have a proper lock and this was the hardest part to find - I've tried everything - a vise and wrench (10mm) and the claw foot had no grip strength, no leverage. I need to resell this tool because the return period has expired. It's well made - I haven't used it, just tried it on to see. It's useless without a backstop.>>>> I haven't used it yet as I don't have a backstop that I've ordered from Volvo for over a month. I also ordered a Volvo version of this tool - it was also ordered earlier. Once I have both I can tell if I'm using the Volvo version or this one. If the first then I will resell as it is too late to return.
