Good sealing, special care during installation, READ INSTRUCTIONS!

I replaced this seal during a transmission overhaul. The truck runs, the Simmerring works great. Installation can be a bit confusing for people who have never used it. The sealing lip is different from the traditional rubber seal, and the seal is narrower than the original seal. Make sure the small thin lip (dust seal) faces away from the motor towards the gearbox. Also, the entire gasket is made of rubber or looks almost like graphite material and not steel. So you have to make sure that it doesn't deform when you press it in. However, because it's all rubber, it cuts in more easily than traditional steel gaskets. Just make sure you lower it fully and flat into the hole; Use an installation tool when pushing it into the case and install the case/seal in the motor so you don't deform it. Another important thing to mention and it's hard to understand as it's against normal Gasket Installation Methods Violates: They DON'T. I repeat, do NOT use oil on this gasket. or is it a counter surface. As I said, this gasket is a harder rubber material, possibly impregnated with graphite? If you use oil I've heard they will definitely leak. I have installed many of these (PTFE I believe is the material) mainly on Cummins diesel engines and Nev. Used oil and never had a leak. They come with vacuum test grease, I wipe it off, just make sure you don't leave lint on it. Explore it. PTFE.
