That's what he says!

This is a FelPro seal, nothing more nothing less. So if it's not damaged in any way, it works fine and is the right size and shape for your application. Just a word of warning. Change the stupid backplate when you make that gasket because sometimes it's not a gasket and you won't know until you put it back together! Plates are only $100 and that saves a lot of extra work!

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model

Fel-Pro Rear Main Seal Kit BS 40640

Used on a 1999 Silverado 5.3L Gen 3rd LS. Fit and functionality were top notch. Now is not the time to save work or hack. If you don't like pulling on gears, I highly recommend using a cap alignment tool, otherwise you will most likely cause premature crank seal leakage at some point or all at once. through contradiction! Also remember that the seal must be mounted "this side out", towards trance you will find a small text on the edge of the seal.

Pros
  • Permanent Test Results
Cons
  • Disappear

Mixed stock, no idea who makes the parts.

So I bought this to fix the rear mainshaft oil seal. I originally received a kit with this copper/aluminum gasket with black silicone as shown in the photos. I had to return this set as the seal was broken. They sent me another bs40640 kit, also branded fel-pro. However, it was a steel gasket with blue silicone. Disappointed because I didn't know if these parts were original, I went to the dealer to buy them. They wanted $80 for the gasket alone and it looked EXACTLY copper/aluminum with black…

Pros
  • Weight

  • Some small things

Good sealing, special care during installation, READ INSTRUCTIONS!

I replaced this seal during a transmission overhaul. The truck runs, the Simmerring works great. Installation can be a bit confusing for people who have never used it. The sealing lip is different from the traditional rubber seal, and the seal is narrower than the original seal. Make sure the small thin lip (dust seal) faces away from the motor towards the gearbox. Also, the entire gasket is made of rubber or looks almost like graphite material and not steel. So you have to make sure that it…

  • Free for training purposes
