When ours blew out and we replaced it with a regular lightbulb, the tortoise didn't even come out of her sun-drenched home to bathe in the light. When Zoo Med's spare light arrived and was placed in her tank, she exited again. So it's really doing something different that the reptile can recognize. We will continue to buy this product. It has a good lifespan as we leave it on for over 12 hours a day.
