My family struggles with temper tantrums and grumpy attitudes and I have this thing damn, try to make it work. They have also been deprived of one of the most valuable human needs: WiFi. Read on for a story of hope, heartbreak, and recovery. In short, this Netgear modem sucks. I bought it because my Xfinity Double Play package (150Mbps internet + cable) had expired and I was charged $60 more. By calling Xfinity they were able to lower my bill. The Double Play and the Triple Play ended at the same price as the current promotions. Thinking I was getting a good deal I signed up for Triple Play not knowing I would need a new modem (shame on me) as I had an old DOCSIS 3.0 modem with no language support and Xfinity was my order meanwhile could not complete Do not install a modem that can work with voice. I DID NOT want to pay $13 a month to rent their modem so I decided to go online and get this one. I was glad it arrived the next day! It was the only plus in this whole story. I set it up and had the WORST time trying to activate it. The connection from the ethernet port to the laptop was ridiculously slow. I had to refresh 10 times and wait for the next page to load in the activation process hoping it wouldn't time out and lose my progress. Finally he got through and was able to activate the new modem. This should have been a big red flag, but I tend to struggle through problems and seem greedy for punishment. Continue reading. Fool me for once: the problem is that the internet has been teased. It connected to the network for a few minutes and then disconnected for more than 5 minutes. You never knew when it would be back online and for how long. After that it went back online and shut down again. I called Comcast but they could only reset the modem every 2 calls. It's been a horrible experience, especially for those who have to work from home a few days a week. Fool me twice: I finally found that the main change causing the problem was the modem, so I decided to replace the original with a new one. New. Revain is amazing and shipped within 2 days. I was dying to get a "lucky" modem out of here and install a new one. After another call to Comcast, they were able to activate a new one. It seemed to work great with amazing speed. until this happened. The internet started to get in the way and I was again exposed to a schizophrenic connection. After wasting valuable time trying to get this thing to work, I finally called Comcast and asked them to take me back to Double Play and reactivate my old modem. a reliable surfboard and since then I haven't had any problems connecting to the internet. During this whole ordeal I've called Comcast at least 10 times for a total of 3.5 hours, not counting a few hours trying to troubleshoot, turn off the power, etc. Now that I think about it, I remember me that in the past I had Netgear modems before my surfboard and had to return them every 6-12 months because they broke. After turning off the power, they worked a little, and then returned to the uneven Internet. It looks like they never fixed these issues even after all these years. If you have come this far, you must also be a glutton as punishment. Please do not punish yourself by purchasing this modem. Learn from my experience and pass it on.
