Review on Acer Predator X25 Bmiiprzx DisplayHDR 24.5" 1920X1080P IPS 360Hz Backlit Gaming Monitor - Unleash the Ultimate Gaming Experience! by Marc Patel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Almost perfect, almost.

I've had this monitor for about 3 weeks (serviced about 3 years). I've been building high-end gaming PCs since about 2001, and this is quite possibly the biggest (and most expensive) advancement in gaming tech I've seen. As a runner-up, I switched to an SSD for the first time probably ten years ago and almost got rid of boot screens. I preferred it to the ASUS version for several reasons. Availability, price and stylish design. However, I'm a bit of an ASUS fan, so I won't lie. The stand is very solid and sleek, but there's no getting away from the fact that this is one hell of a piece of hardware. I actually double-checked that the monitor could be powered up (it swivels left to right very slightly) because I didn't want to break anything. As I moved it up and down several times it became much easier. In fact, mine is rotated about 30 degrees to the left, which allowed me to move the monitor closer to the back of the table for better eye removal. From a functional perspective, my only real gripe (aside from the fan, which I'll get to later) is that the LEDs on the back are pretty much useless. They're not bright enough to offer any sort of off-screen lighting. I can't even tell what color they are from the front in a dark room (although my setup gives enough light). The back looks neat, but who looks at the back of the monitor? The image itself on the screen is by far the best I've seen. I played 4 games on it. Elder Scrolls Online and Borderlands 2 don't have HDR support, but it's an improvement nonetheless. From my 1080ti. I got about 90 images in ESO and 120 in BL2 at max zoom. I've also played Farcry 5 and BL3 in HDR and HOLY $H!T, HDR is a game changer. Farcry 5 looked like a real movie. I haven't experienced any screen tearing or stuttering with Gsync Ultimate. I even found my girlfriend (who hates video games) watching me fly FarCry. It looked so good. I think Windows has some work to do in the HDR department, but that's not the monitor's fault. I've had an LG Ultrawide with HDR 400 for about 2 weeks now and it's a joke compared to that. It shouldn't be called HDR. The two biggest complaints I hear about this monitor are bloom/halo effects (especially around the cursor on a black/dark screen) and fan noise. Combined with a price that is simply too high, that's why I only give it 4 stars. The problem of flowering is practically irrelevant. I only recognize it when HDR is enabled and only when it's a cursor on a black screen. Still, it's almost invisible from the right viewing angle (straight ahead), but definitely there from a more extreme angle. It is also much more pronounced in the monitor's photos and videos. I only enable HDR when gaming HDR and have never had any issues with it or noticed them in the slightest while gaming. My biggest complaint by far is of course the fan. With the music on or at full volume (speakers or headphones), this is not noticeable at all. However, if I'm just surfing the web in a quiet room, this is a very real problem. It's not like it's really that loud, but it does make a high-pitched fan noise every time it turns on. If only it were on all the time it wouldn't be a problem, but this thing starts and stops all the time (even if you turn the monitor on but leave it plugged in). I think this would be a fairly simple solution on the software side. I know the Gysnc module needs a fan and that's certainly not a deal breaker, but it's a very real issue to watch out for and the only reason I've even considered a return (not that , so she's not going anywhere). In my humble opinion, this is the best for immersive gaming. If you have the money, I strongly recommend taking one. Acer, please fix the fan issue and I will upgrade to 5 stars.

  • Screen Tearing: This occurs when the monitor's refresh rate is too slow, causing the image to appear choppy or distorted.
