I bought an Acer X35 and took a chance knowing the flickering and fan issues others have complained about. I also knew that a firmware update was released earlier this year that would fix both of these issues, but I was a bit skeptical and ready to be disappointed. , I was determined to buy an Asus PG35VQ, but the Acer is $600 cheaper than the cheapest PG35VQ I could find, so I unplugged it and crossed my fingers on the Acer. And my god this screen is perfect, I hear NO fan, I can't even hear it when I try to hear it near the monitor, I'm not sure if I had any luck with that or if the firmware has the fan noise is completely eliminated. No flickering issues either. Now for the picture quality. Well if you want a high refresh rate and HDR monitor this is it, there is no other choice, I have tried HDR600 monitors (Samsung GH70 and the latest IPS LG 38GN950) and an HDR400 monitor which is picture in HDR not even close, the IPS screen is terrible for HDR, no blurry picture no matter you play in a dark room with any dark games like Resident Evil or Shadow of the Tomb Raider, overexposure in bright scenes, HDR400 and HDR600 is a joke , believe me I've passed 3 of these and it's not worth it, you're better off just getting a cheaper SDR monitor and it'll get better. If you are running 3440 x 1440 10 bit RGB 4-4-4 144Hz you can go to 180 or 200Hz but you will lose some color fidelity due to the DP1.4 bandwidth limitation, 144Hz is buttery smooth enough for me. Response times are great for a VA panel, slight dark smearing but that's to be expected and in most cases not noticeable at all. If you need to play high refresh rate HDR you really have 3 options: it's the Acer X35, its $600-$800 more expensive sister Asus PG35VQ or the LG 48" CX OLED, I know everyone says the LG 48" CX OLED is cheaper and better. missing if you need to play LG CX at 4K at 120Hz YOU MUST BUY one of the latest RTX 3000 series with HDMI 2.1 to get 4K120 and HDR 10bit, yes, You can run 1440p on LG OLED but it won't be nearly as sharp and sitting far away what's the point then so now spend 1500 on a TV + 500 on a new GPU to get all the benefits, then you paid MORE than just buying this Acer and sticking with an RTX 2080/Super/Ti or even a GTX 1080 Ti At a resolution of 3440 x 1440 you can achieve more than 100 fps per second in most games HDR with Gsync If you have the money, this is the best HDR PERIOD gaming monitor!
