
This is a good old fashioned clockwork timer. You zero the timer to start it, then turn it off. If you don't do this, you may end up with a very faint noise. However, 80 dB should be louder than my vacuum cleaner. No, that is not so. This is much louder than microwave and stovetop timers. Unless you are very hard of hearing you can hear it a few rooms down from the kitchen. I like it because it comes in handy when there's a power outage (I have gas), BBQs, etc. I'll buy a second one. for a caravan.
