You get what you pay for. The black straw peeler didn't make cucumber straws; They weren't divided into strips. I thought at least red would be a good base cleaner. I've only used it a few times and it fell apart when I was peeling the sweet potato. However, yams have thick skins, and if you just want to peel carrots or potatoes, that may be fine. I'm not sure about the red knife but they are all designed so that the metal part slides into the plastic but is not secured so the blade pops out if the plastic is flexed. I cook every day so I buy something stronger.
