I've been looking for an ultra-wide monitor for a long time and was torn between this and the Alienware AW3418DW. Ultimately, it all came down to the aesthetic appearance of the panel. For those who don't know, both this monitor and the AW3418DW are LG panels. That means the inside of the screen is LG. Dell and Acer simply bought the screens from LG and plugged them into their own hardware. Knowing this, I decided that the AW3418DW or the less popular X34P would be the "King of the Ultrawides". Most of the comparisons I found online during my research were between the AW3418DW and the X34 (an older model with 60Hz native, not 100Hz). After much deliberation I've come to the conclusion that this was worth buying because I knew I was paying more for the name if I bought Alienware. I have to say I'm really glad I did it. Maybe I'm lucky, but my panel has practically no backlight, accelerates to 120 Hz without flickering and looks good overall. The colors are bright and saturated, adding a certain depth to the gaming experience that I didn't have before. I'm in total shock.
