Review on Bell Rear Bike Racks: Optimal Caddy Solution for Bicycles by Ryan Larson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Too much work required!

Wow, this is so different from my 22 year old bike rack! This one had pivoting side posts and a total of four (4) bolts and four (4) nuts! This new bike rack has a parts bag containing eight (8) bolts, eight (8) washers and four (4) nuts. These screws come in two sizes. But that's not all. Each jiffy stand comes pre-assembled with a sliding mounting post that connects to the bike. The way Bell assembled the parts doesn't allow them to be attached to every bike. Each user must completely disassemble each assembly. Bell had to pre-cut the parts to fit the standard bike size so at least a lucky few didn't have to do as much work! That's not all! Each front rack is pre-fitted to a carriage which, I hope you have guessed, must be removed before the carriage can be attached to the bike rack! Bell needs to pre-assemble the chassis into a rack or just pack all of those parts into a parts bag! The instructions say you only need a hex key. It wasn't like that. Two of the ten (10) screws were oversized. Pay attention to the body blocks: each front rack is attached to the body by tightening the nut. Bell wants the lug nuts to face inward toward each other. You look prettier. However, the nuts are much easier to access if you turn them inside out. Use their method if you're sure you'll never want to customize your racks :)
